Karuna’s long history dates back to 1974 at the height of the Women’s Movement. Founded as a feminist collective and still operating from these non-hierarchical ideals, we originally formed to meet a need for affirmative and affordable therapy for women and the queer community.

While our reach has evolved and expanded over time to welcome and work with people from a wide range of intersecting identities, an enduring thread through the years remains our commitment to bringing “compassion in action” into the therapy room.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, we seek to make mental health services available to as many people as possible through the availability of a varying number of sliding scale options.
