Lisa Anyan Smith, Ph.D.

I have been a licensed psychologist since 1998. I consider therapy a collaborative endeavor in which client and therapist work together to process emotions, events, and behaviors in the quest to facilitate understanding and change.

One of my primary goals is to foster an environment of safety and trust in which to explore issues, fears, concerns, and hopes. I believe in a growth model conceptualized in terms of health rather than sickness. A person is the best expert on him- or herself, and together we utilize our relationship to realize self-awareness in the search for meaning.

I employ a holistic approach, using a variety of techniques to address the countless experiences and emotions that make up the person. I have found that a humanistic and existential view is often helpful with clients who are struggling to find meaning in their lives. I have also found cognitive-behavioral techniques extremely effective in facilitating growth. I enjoy working with adult individuals, couples, and groups. I have worked extensively with survivors of trauma and those suffering from PTSD. I also especially welcome those who struggle with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, stress management, grief and loss, infertility, or career decisions.
