I choose the wolf for my symbol of therapy because they are wild, perceptive, and represent the tension between our need to both differentiate ourselves from others and stay connected to a group.

Knowing who we are as individuals and connecting with others in a healthy way are often integral parts of the process and outcome of therapy.

Therapy provides a wonderful opportunity to grow in awareness, which opens the door to choices and lasting change. Growing in awareness involves deep listening on a heart level. Both the therapist and the individual in therapy bring their whole selves – body, mind and soul – to this collaborative effort. The person in therapy is the expert on their own life, and the therapist has knowledge in how to guide the individual toward health and wholeness.

In addition to providing a safe space to explore feelings and thoughts, I utilize a type of therapy called “Coherence Therapy,” which provides a framework for uncovering the “emotional truth” underlying a particular problem or issue. A wide variety of methods, such as gestalt, visualization, active imagination, dream work and body work are possible avenues for exploration in Coherence Therapy. Once the problem or issues are understood at a deep level, real and lasting change can take place. I work with adults and adolescents who wish to address issues with depression, anxiety, addiction, relationships, sexuality, grief, or any place where life feels “stuck.”

Darby has a Master of Social Work degree and is a graduate of The Haden Institute’s “Dream Group Leadership Training” program.
