My name is Claire Scott, and I'm a licensed psychologist. I have been the mental health field since 1988, and have worked with a wide variety of clients in various clinical settings, primarily private practice. I work with individuals, couples and groups -- adults 18 years and older.

I work as a psychologist because I believe that often we cannot see our way through the forest for the trees. I think we are often caught up in old, unconscious and automatic ways of thinking and behaving that can indeed make a hell of heaven and a heaven of hell. I want to help people break free of these patterns and get to know their true selves way down deep where it counts. I want to help them learn to listen to and treasure that knowledge and live it out in their significant relationships.

For me, that is deeply gratifying and creative work. I feel privileged to get to know people at that level, and to participate in their healing and growth.

Somewhere on this page you'll see a turtle. The idea was that I should choose a symbol that revealed a little about myself. I chose the turtle because turtles have long been a meaningful animal/symbol to me, dating back to when I first heard the fable about the tortoise and the hare, and slow and steady wins the race. I also like turtles because they carry their homes on their backs (and so are at home anywhere they go). I like that they have to stick their necks out to get anywhere. And I like that they are protected by a tough exterior so they don't get so easily hurt.
